Panurus biarmicus ( Bearded Reedling - Μουστακαλής )

The Cyprus Discovery presents to you the Bearded Reedling or bearded tit.  The Bearded Reedling is one of the birds is found in Cyprus. The scientific name is Panurus biarmicus and the Greek name is moustakalis. Bearded Reedling is a rare visitor to our island. It is a small sized bird which height reaches up to 14-16 cm. It has a wingspan of 16 - 18 cm. It is  also found in lakes and reed beds. It feeds with insects and reed seeds. 

Το Cyprus Discovery σας παρουσιάζει τον Μουστακαλής ή Καλαμογιαννίτσαρος καθώς αποτελεί ένα από τα πουλιά που συναντάμε και στην Κύπρο. Η επιστημονική του ονομασία είναι Panurus biarmicus και η αγγλική του Bearded Reedling.  Ο μουστακαλής είναι ένας σπάνιος επισκέπτης για το νησί μας. Είναι ένα μικρού μεγέθους πουλί με ύψος που φθάνει τα 14 - 16 εκ. και με άνοιγμα φτερών 16 - 18 εκ.. Το συναντάμε σε λίμνες και καλαμιώνες κατά την περίοδο του χειμώνα και της μετανάστευσης. Τρέφεται κυρίως  με έντομα και σπόρους καλαμιών.
