Muscicapa striata ( Spotted Flycatcher - Σταχτομυγοχάφτης )
The Cyprus Discovery presents to you the Spotted Flycatcher. The Spotted Flycatcher is one of the birds found in Cyprus. The scientific name is Muscicapa striata and the Greek name is Stachtomigochaftis. It is a small size bird and its height is around 13,5 -15 cm. Its wingspan is about 20 to 23 cm. We can meet Spotted Flycatcher in parks, gardens and forests. It feeds mainly with beetles, flies, ants, bees and wasps. We can rarely found it in the ground and sometimes we can see it frolicking to get its food.
Το Cyprus Discovery σας παρουσιάζει τον Σταχτομυγοχάφτη, καθώς αποτελεί ένα από τα πουλιά που συναντάμε και στην Κύπρο. Η επιστημονική του ονομασία είναι Muscicapa striata και η αγγλική του Spotted Flycatcher. Είναι ένα μικρού μεγέθους πουλί με ύψος που φθάνει τα 13,5 -15 εκ. και με άνοιγμα φτερών 20-23 εκ.. Τον Σταχτομυγοχάφτη τον συναντάμε σε πάρκα, κήπους και δάση. Τρέφεται κυρίως με μύγες σκαθάρια, μυρμήγκια, μέλισσες και σφήκες. Σπάνια τον συναντάμε στο έδαφος, αλλά μερικές φορές τον βλέπουμε να χοροπηδά για να πάρει το φαγητό του.
