It is a medium to large size bird which its height is 36 - 42 cm. It has a wingspan of 87 - 104 cm. The Eleonora's Falcon is one of the birds breeding in Cyprus. Furthermore, it is leaving of the island during winter time. It feeds mainly with small birds and large insects like beetles, dragonflies, butterflies moths and cicadas. Eleonora's Falcon lives at rocky coastline and steep cliffs.

Επίσης εγκαταλείπει το νησί κατά την διάρκεια του χειμώνα. Τρέφεται κυρίως με μικρά πουλιά και μεγάλα έντομα όπως σκαθάρια, λιβελούλες, πεταλούδες, νυχτοπεταλούδες και τζιτζίκια. Ο Μαυροπετρίτης ζει σε βραχώδεις ακτές και απότομους γκρεμούς.
